Your Therapy Questions, all Answered Here:

FAQs

  • Q: What if I don’t fit into the areas you specialize in?

I specialize in working with thoughtful, self-aware adults navigating anxiety, relationship patterns, boundaries, and life transitions. If you’re unsure whether we’re the right fit, we can explore that together during a consultation.

My goal is always to help you find the right support — whether that’s working together or connecting you with a provider who better matches your needs.

  • Q: What can I expect during my first session?

Our first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and begin clarifying what’s bringing you to therapy. We’ll talk about your goals, patterns you’ve noticed, and what you’re hoping will feel different moving forward. You’ll also get a sense of how I work — collaborative, practical, and focused on creating meaningful, lasting change.

  • Q: How do I schedule an appointment?

The easiest way to schedule is through the booking link on my website. You’re also welcome to reach out by email or phone if you have questions before getting started.

  • Q: What is your cancellation policy?

Life happens! If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give me at least 24 hours' notice. Missed sessions without prior notice may incur a cancellation fee. This policy helps ensure availability for all clients, and I’m happy to work with you if you need to adjust your appointment.

  • Q: What if I don’t feel comfortable with therapy or with you as a counselor?

It’s completely normal to feel unsure at first. If, at any point, you feel we’re not a good fit, we can discuss your concerns openly. I can help you find another resource or counselor who better suits your needs. Your comfort, trust, and growth are always the priority.

  • Q: How long does each session last?

Each session typically lasts 53-55 minutes, which is usually enough to make meaningful progress. If you need additional time, we can discuss extending your session as needed.

  • Q: Is therapy confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. What you share stays between us, except in cases where there’s a risk of harm to yourself or others, or when required by law. In such cases, I’ll always discuss it with you beforehand.

  • Q: Do you accept insurance?

I am in-network with Aetna. For all other insurance plans, I can provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement. You’re also welcome to verify your benefits with your insurer, or I can submit out-of-network claims for you through Mentaya.

  • Q: How do I know if therapy is right for me?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or uncertain about the next steps in your life, therapy can help. Starting with a consultation allows us to explore your goals and see if therapy is the right step for you.

Many of the clients I work best with are ready for intentional change — even if they don’t have everything figured out yet.

  • Q: What is your approach to therapy?

My approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and grounded in evidence-based methods like CBT, ACT, and integrative techniques. Together, we focus on creating intentional, sustainable change — blending insight with practical strategies so therapy feels both grounding and empowering.

  • Q: Do you offer therapy that focuses on deeper change, not just coping skills?

Many of my clients come to therapy already self-aware — they understand their patterns but feel stuck changing them. While coping skills can be helpful, our work often goes deeper. Together, we explore the “why” behind your experiences while building practical strategies that support intentional, lasting change. Therapy is both insight-oriented and action-focused, so you leave sessions with clarity and tools you can actually use.

  • Q: Is therapy with you more structured or more open-ended?

Therapy with me is collaborative and flexible. Some sessions focus on exploring deeper patterns and insights, while others may include practical strategies, skill-building, or reflection exercises. Many clients appreciate having both structure and space — therapy that feels grounded, intentional, and tailored to what you need in that moment.

  • Q: How do I know if I’m ready for therapy?

You don’t have to be in crisis to start therapy. Many of the adults I work with are functioning well on the outside but feel stuck internally — overthinking, people-pleasing, or repeating patterns that no longer serve them. If you’re curious about yourself, open to growth, and ready to explore meaningful change, therapy can be a supportive next step.

  • Q: Why do many clients choose private-pay therapy?

Many clients who work with me are looking for therapy that feels intentional, personalized, and focused on meaningful growth. Private-pay therapy gives us the flexibility to move beyond insurance limitations and tailor our work to what truly supports you. For many thoughtful adults, investing in therapy becomes a powerful step toward lasting change and living more aligned with who they are.
